Okay, So I’m going to start doing things a little bit differently around here…
Instead of posting a teaching only, I think it would be cool if I start to share more of my life, my background–my story–so that ya’ll get to know a little bit more about who it is that puts the pen to the paper. What do ya’ll think?!
So, here we go! A little bit of life + a little bit of Bible Study…
Lately, things have been crazy. Things have been rough. Things have been, well, 100% all over the place. Anyone with me?!
Let me fill you in just a little…
Sometime, about three months ago, I got laid off from my job; something like two months ago, I started getting this random sciatic-like pain down the back of my upper left thigh/butt (of course, when I’m in-between jobs with no health insurance); and, this week, I’ve been sick… like, all week.
The whole unemployment is another story, too long for this post; but, I’ll definitely be sharing on a next post. The biggest thing you need to know about that right now, is that, I’m waiting. I’m not looking for another job, I’m waiting. I’m waiting because, God has shown me to wait; and, far before I ever got laid off, He showed me what I am to be waiting, believing, and trusting Him for.
So, as if unemployment can’t be shaky enough just looking for a job on your own, try waiting on it by faith, watching your bank account drain (again!). Perhaps I should mention that, once I went all-in for God, I’ve come to and left more jobs, sitting in unemployment more times, than I think I ever have! Not typical for a gal like me. In my own will, in my own “style” of doing life, I control things; and, going in and out of jobs like I have these last three years, that would have been considered out-of-control to me, never-to-happen…but God.
So back to the point… things have been a little bit crazy.
When you’ve come from a background like I have, a very Godless background, and then you realize that it’s God that has been missing from your life, there is a HUGE learning curve when it comes to trusting Him, and I don’t just mean the kind of trust that’s like, “Oh yes, I trust in God, but I don’t read His Word, or actually spend time with Him, or care to follow Him, or get His perspective…” No, I’m not talking about that lukewarm trust, I’m talking about actual, real trust—the kind of trust where you rely on Him and what He has to say more than you would ever rely on your own, physically tangible dad, or any other human for that matter.
That trust is called faith, and faith, is a journey. The more faith and trust you desire to have in God, the more you’re going to see how powerful and real He is; but, also, the more faith you pray to have, the more that your faith is going to be tested—you can’t have the blessing without the trial.
So, here we are, that’s where I’m at right now. CRAZY about sums it all up. Thankfully, though, God. On my doubty days, God. On my good days, God. On my cry-my-eyes-out days, God. These trials, these tests, this waiting, it down right sucks sometimes, to be frank; but, if this means knowing Him more and being able to see His power—His for real power—than yes, here I am Lord, send me.
Enough of me for today, now to the goods…
“I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened…
…that YOU may KNOW what is the hope to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the IMMEASURABLE GREATNESS of His POWER toward US who BELIEVE…
…according to the working of His great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places…” (Ephesians 1:16-20 ESV emphasis is mine)
Read carefully, friends. Read carefully and slowly. Really chew on each word as you pass them by: YOU may KNOW the IMMEASURABLE GREATNESS of His POWER…
YOU may KNOW!
Not only does it say that we may KNOW the hope and the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, but it says that we may KNOW the IMMEASURABLE GREATNESS of His POWER toward US who BELIEVE!
Are you catching that?! That’s incredible!
But wait, what is this “power”? What kind of power is Paul, the author and apostle, speaking of, that we can know?
You see, God’s own hand–His own power–is what resurrected Jesus Christ from the dead. That was Him. He conquered death! And, through what God demonstrated for us on the cross, through that resurrection power, God is saying that we can KNOW the immeasurable greatness of that power. His Spirit, the same God who, by His immeasurable greatness of power, resurrected Jesus from the dead, lives and works within us. It’s this power, His power, that is available to us; and, as we just read in our passage, God’s Word says it’s a power that we can KNOW!
“I want to know Christ–yes, to know the power of his resurrection…” (Philippians 3:10 NIV)
So, hypothetically, what if? What if for a minute we just stopped what we were doing and actually received that for what it is–a Word from God–truth? What if the God you serve, the God I serve, by the “immeasurable greatness of His power,” 100% raised Jesus from the dead and now, that power, His power, is the same power that is here to work in, around, and through, you—“to those who believe.”
How would that change your day?! How would that change your circumstances? Your outlook on what is possible? How would that change MY day?
Those are powerful words, given by a powerful God, and for a powerful reason.
He wants us to KNOW the immeasurable greatness of His power so that we can trust. He wants you to look to the cross so that you can see it, so that you can see Him, and to know that He’s there, that’s He’s here, for YOU.
We don’t have to worry in the midst of our trials. Instead, let’s take Him at His Word. Let’s look to His power, the cross, and trust.
Wow. Wow. Wow!
